g 5. Voters should choose representatives, not the other way around!
+7 S. Among the priorities/criteria for drawing maps this time around was one I consider
completely inappropriate: ensuring that no two council members* live in any single district.
Some of our current council members just went through personally taxing and expensive
campaigns, and they cannot help but consider that when drawing districts. But from the
civilians' pt of view, why should that have any effect whatsoever on the layout of districts for
the ensuing decade?[* that is, council members who are not termed out]
+6 5 Don't allow gerrymandering, even at small scale.
+5 5 - yes, of course, but there was a compressed timeline for this one because of the lawsuit
threat
+3 5. As long as the commission has representation from all areas of the city.
+2 5 - Citizens should make up at least a part (I would say a majority) of the commission. I
would like to volunteer for such a post. This is the first aspect of City Govt I can see myself
volunteering time to help.
+z 4. If the city is so complex, that information can be provided to educate the Citizen based
commission.
+2 5 1 find it extremely hard to believe that this isn't a HUGE conflict of interest. The council
members needs to show they understand this and turn it over to an independent
committee.
+z 5 Politicians gerrymander boundaries for self-serving and political gain. We would
support a citizen commission as long as there was not a conflict of interest or party
associated political gain. If we are to be divided up, it should be by physical region. For
instance, Redwood Shores should be ONE district. This we would support...
+2 5. More than one city council members expressed support for a citizen commission
during the most recent meeting, and this will avoid conflicts of interest.
