Any requests made less than forty-eight (48) hours in <br />advance for leave, or one -hundred twenty (120) hours in advance for <br />cancellations, will be approved only at the discretion of the Battalion Chief. <br />No more than five (5) employees per shift, irrespective of rank, may be on <br />vacation leave at the same time. Upon request, the Fire Chief or his or her <br />designee may permit a sixth (6th) person per shift to be on vacation at a given <br />time. <br />During annual vacation picks and thereafter, if applicable, Fire Captains and <br />Fire Fighter/Engineers may select the following Holidays: Thanksgiving, <br />Christmas Eve, and Christmas. However, the employee(s) requesting the <br />respective Holiday leave may be required to find his/her own relief depending <br />on relief staffing available. The employee requesting the respective Holiday <br />leave may also utilize individuals on the existing OT sign up list in Telestaff to <br />secure relief. The required paperwork must be submitted at least 48 hours <br />prior to the requested leave or the leave will not be approved. The relief <br />person(s) will be paid the appropriate overtime, with approval. <br />Ops Manual Section 7.5 is dedicated to Personnel Time Off. This section will <br />include all rules pertaining to leave selection. Changes to this Ops Manual <br />section will only be made with mutual agreement between the Fire Chief and <br />the Union utilizing an agreed upon procedure. <br />9.7 Illness During Vacation <br />9.7.1 An employee who commences a scheduled vacation period and subse uentl <br />becomes ill before his or her vacation period has been completed shall be placed on sick <br />leave under the followinci conditions: <br />9.7.1.1 The employee otherwise has the requisite amount of accrued, unused sick <br />leave and otherwise qualifies for sick leave as provided by this Agreement; and <br />9,7.4+1.2 The employee, if no longer ill, returns to duty immediately following <br />the vacation period; and <br />9.7.4+1.3 The employee's illness is verified by a statement from aij licensed <br />medical practitioner for each such day of sick leave requested. <br />9.7.1.4-.2 When the employee's vacation leave is to be converted to sick <br />leave, he appropriate vacation credit shall be restored to the employee's earned <br />vacation balance and a reasonable opportunity to utilize this vacation credit shall be <br />provided within the City's existing_ practices. <br />SECTION 10 — PERSONNEL FILES <br />An employee, or his/her representative on presentation of written authorization from the <br />employee, shall have access to the employee's personnel file on request.
