6.K. - Page 51 of 190 <br />Officer, no lower than the salary step held at the time the employee left City <br />employment. <br />A regular employee who is reinstated within thirty (30) working days of leaving <br />City employment shall be reinstated as if he/she had been on an unpaid leave <br />of absence. Any benefits which were cashed out shall be reinstated if the <br />employee elects to buy back such benefits, subject to -the cestrictions of the <br />Public Employees` Pension Reform Act. <br />The reinstated employee will serve the designated probationary period for that <br />classification prior to becoming a regular employee, regardless of the salary <br />step at which the employee was reinstated. <br />SECTION 16 - LAYOFF <br />16.1 Order of Layoff <br />In the event of a reduction of force, the employee with the least service in the <br />classification affected shall be laid off first; provided, however, that any such <br />employee so laid off shall be reassigned to a vacant position in related <br />classification, or a position held by an employee having less service with the <br />City; provided, further, that <br />:' . �. ;_.the reassigned employee te-- -- 4a - off shall be <br />deemed capable, in the opinion of the City, by virtue of prior training and <br />experience with the City of Redwood City, to perform the work required in that <br />related classification. <br />16.2 Order of Rehire <br />An employee who is laid off shall be placed, for a period of one (1) year from <br />the date of the employee's most recent layoff, on a rehire list (for the <br />employee's classification). In hiring for a vacant position in a classification, <br />such rehire list shall take precedence over all other employment lists and the <br />last employee laid off shall be the first employee rehired until the rehire list of <br />employees is exhausted; provided, however, that the employee hired from the <br />rehire list is capable, in the opinion of the City, by virtue of prior training and <br />experience with the City, to perform the work required in the classification in <br />which the opening exists. <br />16.3 Break in Service <br />Service with the City for the purpose of calculating seniority shall be terminated <br />by discharge, resignation, retirement or lyof. <br />, <br />feft�sa <br />40 <br />294 <br />
