The Committee also formed sub -committees to further research specific topics and gather input.
Also, some of the Committee members serve as liaisons to regional working groups and committees such
as the C/CAG Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Safe Routes to School Task Force, and SamTrans
Citizen Advisory Committee.
I_1►/_l%,M V
The Committee's work directly supports the City's Transportation Initiative, one of seven initiatives
outlined in Redwood City's Strategic Plan. During the past three and a half years, the Committee
addressed several important topics related to transportation and complete streets. Examples include
providing feedback on the citywide transportation plan "RWCmoves," the traffic calming program, the
residential parking permit program, the Hopkins Avenue traffic calming project, the EI Camino Real
Corridor Plan, and on the 101/84 interchange reconfiguration project, providing letters of support for
numerous grant applications, and developing an educational video. Also, the Committee's quarterly
meetings provide an additional, important, and inclusive venue for receiving community input on critical
and sensitive matters.
As the City of Redwood City continues addressing critical transportation topics, projects, and programs
and collaborate with other agencies on regional projects and plans such as Dumbarton Rail and Caltrain
Business Plan it will benefit from the ongoing work and contributions of the Committee and its members.
On March 12, 2019, the Committee voted to recommend creation of a standing committee with some
modifications to the pilot committee. The standing committee will continue to be advisory in nature and
will follow the same processes as other advisory committees for bringing recommendations to the
Council. The City's Transportation Manager will continue to serve as the committee liaison.
The standing Committee's mission, focus and duties are listed in the proposed resolution (Attachment A);
these are largely consistent with those of the pilot Committee.
Proposed changes include renaming the committee from the Complete Streets Advisory Committee to the
Transportation Advisory Committee for two reasons:
• To have a more common name that the general public readily understands, and
• To reflect the range of activities and tasks with which the Committee has been involved.
Below are key aspects of the proposed Committee; additional details are outlined in Attachment A:
• Membership
o Maintain the number of members at seven.
o Require that at least five Committee members be residents of the City of Redwood City.
o Allow up to two members to reside in unincorporated Redwood City or to be employed within
the City of Redwood City. This will bring the perspective of residents who identify with the City,
but may not live within its jurisdictional limits and that of Redwood City workers who are impacted
by the City's transportation projects and policies.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
91
