9. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub - section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus Bulletin No. 37 -2006 and 38 -2006. Council may direct staff to act <br />on positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority <br />Focus available in City Clerk's Department.) <br />B. Economic Development Element of the General Plan and the 5 -Year Economic <br />Development Implementation Plan <br />Vice Mayor Foust stated that Principal Planner Passinisi would be giving an <br />overview of one of the optional elements of the General Plan which is the <br />Economic Development Element and explain why economic development is so <br />vital to the community. <br />Principal Planner Passinisi explained the optional element and the importance of it <br />being included. <br />Jeff Gee, Chamber Economic Development Vice Chair, stated that this is a unique <br />opportunity to look at an element that establishes a vision for Redwood City, the <br />assessment shows where we have been and where we are now, and the <br />strategies explain how to achieve that vision. <br />Housing & Economic Development Manager Webb gave a review of the last 10 <br />years since the 1996 strategy was adopted. She then explained that the 5 -year <br />implementation plan is proposed because the economy cycles up and down and <br />will allow for better responsiveness. <br />Project Manager Young explained the assessment report. <br />Gee acknowledged staff and the various partners involved in the process.
