7A
Page 19

c. Expenditures:

. Funding for existing tree maintenance.
Tree maintenance comes from General Fund.
. Funding for new tree installation.
· Tree installation comes from the City Capital Improvement
Program, grants for specific projects and the city's partnership with
City Trees.
. Funding for sidewalk repair due to root damage.
· Sidewalk repair comes from Public Works
. $50Klyear to administer the tree permit process
· Comes from General Fund Street Tree Maintenance Program

Findinas:

a. Fines derived from tree ordinance violations are designated to go to the
general fund, not directly to the tree program.

Topic 7. Education

Recommendations:

22.Create an education/outreach program (brochures, website) to provide
information on topics such as: the city's Urban Forest Program, the city's
Urban Forest Vision, the city's Landmark Trees, benefits of trees, Certified
Arborists, tree ordinances, pruning practices. and tree selection for different
planting situations.

23. Create additional partnerships to further community education about proper
arboricultural practices with businesses such as local garden/landscape
suppliers and community groups such as City Trees. Encourage local tree
service companies to adopt the city's Landmark trees. In doing so, they would
donate their services to care for and maintain trees in exchange for positive
public relations.

24. Communicate how trees get the designation of Landmark Trees, and develop a
program to educate the public about these trees.

Context:

a. The city does have a "tree section" on the Public Works website with
educational material on it, (e.g. value of trees, care of trees and city policy
for trees). It may not be obvious to residents to go find the information under
the Public Works link.

Re-formatted 11/29/2006
