ae
Page 27

Quarter Shuttle Staff Activities

During the quarter, staff resources were primarily focused on implementing a Devils
Slide Emergency Shuttle, Redwood City Shuttle planning and a new Pacifica Shuttle
service. A quasi-exclusive Atliance serviGe provider will begin operating some Alliance
routes in 02 with the completion of the Shuttle RFP process. As a result, a great deal
of management time was spent on a weeIdy basts. with final detaos related to that
transition.

Shuttles
A large amount of shuttle department time was expended related to numerous general
information customer calls for the Connections and Burlingame Trolley shuttle services.
Late in the quarter, staff was focused on finalizing and starting up an Emergency Devils
Slide shuttle at the request..of. the City of Pacifica.. Fortunately for., the coast side.
Highway 1 was opened over a month earlier than the most optimistic projections.
Unfortunately for the shuttle department, hundreds of staff hours had been expended
during FY 0506 Q4 and FY 0607 01 reviewing service options. creating/modifying
schedule scenarios, training drivers, and creating rnaps & schedules for both printed
and web based information. As this was an unscheduled project in the agency's Work
Plan, most other planned tasks were delayed.

In addition. shuttle department staff continued work on the initial design stages of a
, potential residential shuttle service for Redwood City. A fair amount of staff time was
spent driving the prospective route areas to detennine feasibility. Multiple route and
scheduling options were prov;ded for the stakeholder group. Suggestions were
provided by the group and additional research was requested. Work continues on this
project. Due to the complex issues represented by the numerous stakeholders in the
group, it was decided to implement service in a,pbased approach. . .The commuter
shuttle element is expected to be discussed before the Redwood City Council in late
Q2.

Even though scheduled for the fourth quarter in1he Alliance Work Plan, cancellation of
the Devils Slide Emergency Shuttle left aHocated funds avaifable for a Pacifica Shuttle
service. As a result, other projects were delayed to take advantage of the available
funding. Service routing and schedule options were provided to the stakeholder group.
Based on the group comments, addition research was provided along with additional
schedule options. Due to the timing of various events, the Pacifica service will be
implemented in a phased approach as well. A midday element, focused in the Linda
Mar area. win begin in early 02:" A school element has been proposed as well and will
be researched In the coming months as phase 2.

Also, a large employer, Genentech loe, is joining the Utah-Grand shuttle route in early
October. The route needed to be modified and four vehicle route schedules adjusted to
add the new stop. Revised printable and electronic schedules and maps were created
and provided for marketing purposes by the end of 01.

12
