6.2A
Page 6

Michael Speight, Redwood City resident, is concerned with the environment and species
and how that is handled appropriately. He believes that the school committee lacked
courage and took the easy way out. It is a good plan, but he would like the geology/soils
checked and asked who is responsible for the hydrology. He is also concerned about
additional pollution and public services (there is no more than one police officer
patrolling in Redwood Shores.)

Peter Hughes, Redwood City resident, stated that we need to focus on the need for
another school and the significant difference on property values. He also believes that
this is the only site for the school.

Scott Miron, Redwood Shores New School Advisory Committee, stated that this project
needs to go forward without haste.

John Hedblom, Redwood City resident, stated that there should be some consideration
towards the design of the school and EIR alternatives for school impacts on other sites
should be brought up. He also believes that the Commission should consider looking
years later at the demographics and population to upgrade the school to accommodate
older children.

MIS (Radcliffe/Gee) to close Public Hearing.
Motion Passed

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Commissioner Radcliffe stated that the traffic analysis should include a shuttle to take
kids to school in the morning hours.

Commissioner Cronin mentioned that there is bicycle access stated in the EIR.

Commissioner Gee would like to understand the alternatives and how they will be
handled in the EIR and that it seems there are five parts to the application.

Mr. Passanisi replied that the EIR alternatives have not been decided on yet, but there
may be three or four alternatives.

Commissioner Gee would like the alternatives to look at the project/no project and to
look at a variation of spaces. He also stated that Redwood Shores has a high number of
active park spaces and would like to know how valuable that park space is in terms of
the General Plan Element. A creative way to make a park or storage space for cars
would be good, because Redwood Shores has no on street parking in this area.

Commissioner Borgens wanted to make sure that the play field at the school and its
required lighting does not impact or glare onto the neighborhood, and that it should be
looked at.

Chair Seybert stated that the EIR will study the impacts well and the flexibility of the
project are important. Regarding park space Redwood Shores has a good portion, but
Redwood City doesn't look at the impact of not having enough park space for that
particular area. It look at the community as a whole, but there needs to be a good
balance of park space and parking spaces needed.

Page 3of4
