<br />9A <br />Page 9 <br /> <br />ATTACHMENT 6 <br />PUBLIC WORKS SERVICES DEPARTMENT <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />Date: <br /> <br />January 25, 2007 <br /> <br />To: <br /> <br />Ed Everett, City Manager <br /> <br />Through: <br /> <br />Larry Barwacz, Public Works Services Director <br /> <br />From: <br /> <br />Gordon Mann, Public Works Superintendent <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />FOLLOW UP STEPS TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE <br />TREE POLICY TASK FORCE <br /> <br />Reference: <br /> <br />24 Recommendations received at the December 4, 2006 City <br />Council Meeting <br /> <br />Staff has met and discussed the next steps and implementation of the 24 recommendations <br />from the Task Force. <br /> <br />The steps are being presented in short term and long term implementation strategies for <br />Council consideration. <br /> <br />The recommendations the City could implement in the short term with minimal staff resource <br />and budget impacts are listed below. The numbers correspond to the Task Force's 24 item <br />Executive Summary list: <br /> <br />1. Redwood City adopt a vision for the Urban Forest Program. Vision was accepted by <br />Council at the December 4, 2006 meeting. <br /> <br />4. Officially designate the Public Works Services Department accountable for the Urban <br />Forest Program. Public Works Services will take the lead using our expertise and <br />resources to collaborate with the other necessary departments and community <br />members to develop the Urban Forestry Program. There are short term initial steps <br />and longer term follow up steps that would benefit from community input prior to <br />presenting to Council. <br /> <br />10. Create a Master Tree List. Staff will formulate the list of trees currently being planted <br />as street trees. Ordinance section 29.66 allows for this list of approved trees for those <br />trees to be planted along public streets.
