CDS Manager Passanisi spoke to issues that arose during the public review <br /> process such as parking, traffic, and bikes. He then discussed public parks, <br /> Redwood Creek, parks, public art, schools, and special uses. He summarized the <br /> issues as height, historic resources, parking, traffic, bikes, public art, parks, <br /> schools, banks, and bail bond offices. <br /> Redevelopment Manager Moeller closed the presentation by stating that the vision <br /> presented to the Planning Commission on October 3rd and now to the City Council <br /> is a downtown that is the premiere, livable downtown on the Peninsula, to be <br /> welcoming, authentic and distinctive. <br /> Mayor Pierce thanked staff. <br /> Recess: 9:10-9:20 p.m. <br /> Mayor Pierce opened the public hearing. <br /> Public Comment: <br /> Theodore Brown, representing 601 Brewster, explained that on this property <br /> development will be such that there will never be any sun. He referred to plans he <br /> has seen for a building on an interior lot that is 200 feet long, has a 2-story high <br /> wall, is 200 feet long, and in the middle of the common property line it is two <br /> stories high. He further stated that it is set back five feet and goes up another 72 <br /> feet with windows and balconies for the tenants. He stated that the building will <br /> cast a shadow on the property and nobody on his property will ever get sun. <br /> Peggy Bruggman, residing on Alden Street in the recently designated historic <br /> Mezesville district, stated that she and her neighbors welcome the changes. She <br /> suggested a revision to the transitional heights between the downtown and her <br /> neighborhood stating her primary concern is with the proposed height of the <br /> buildings in the transition to the neighborhood across Brewster. After explaining, <br /> she suggested that the Brewster side of the block be limited to three stories for <br /> the entirety of the half block increasing to five stories on the backside of the block <br /> that would be facing Fuller. <br /> Mike Sposito, lifetime Redwood City resident and representing Liza and Frank <br /> Bizzarro, stated their excitement about the Precise Plan. He stated that he and <br /> the Bizzarro's would like a uniform code throughout the Plan area with a variance <br /> permit for other than retail. He further stated that visitors should expect the same <br /> parking facilities throughout the city and that Main Street should be considered <br /> part of the Plan. He further stated the need for downtown housing, and expressed <br /> his concern with the Savers store and garbage in the area. <br /> Peter Cuschieri complimented the City on the new meters on Broadway but stated <br /> that customers are running in and out of the bistro, worried about a possible <br /> REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MARCH 12, 2007 <br /> MINUTES PAGE 6 <br />
