The increase is a result of the
addition of 16 spaces to Lot T Soufl, the addition of 76 spaces W the City's employee parlang lot,
the reshiping of Broadway from El Camino Real W Perry Street/Califomia Strxt, which yieided 11
new spaces, and the addirion of 36 other onsheet spaces in various downtown locations.
The downtown pazldng supply considered for the updated parking analysis is suminarized in Table
5. 'The table indicates whether the spaces are ons7eet or offstreet, and which hours they are avail-
able.
Table 5
Number of CityAperated Parking Spaces by Time of Day
. T'hese spaces were not included in the pazldng supply for this analysis.
• Estimates of parking occupancy in t6e downtown area were updated based on the surveys con-
ducted on three Fridays.in April, 2002. One of'these Fridays was a date with an event at the Fox
Theater, and the increase in occupancy on that day was integated into the overall demand esrimate.
The greatest pazking demand occiured at 1:00 PM. At that time, there were 2,721 vehicles pazked
in the downtown azea, of which 1,221 were pazked in the Cityontrolled spaces.
• Estimates of project parking demand were adjusted so that hourly variations more closely
matched data obtained at the Cenhuy 12 cinemas in Redwcwd City.
Results
The updated analysis was performed only for Friday pazldng conditions (because the revised project would
not create adverse impacts on Saturday pazldng condirions under the original assumptions, which are more
conservative). The projected hourly pazldng surpluses and deficiu for the revised project (using the updated
assumptions) are presented in Table 6. Detailed hosly demand and supply figures for all three revised
project altematives are shown in the apprndix to this report. Proiected hourly surpluses and deficits for the
approved project (using the original assumptions) are also provided in Table 6 for convenient reference,
even though they are not strictly comparable because of the differences in demand and supply infortnation.
20
