These signs were paid far as part of a grant #he Poiice <br /> Department abt�ined through tl�e State 4�ce af Traffic Saf�ty, which provided for <br /> installatior� of similar si�ns at various school crasswalks around the city. <br /> The McGarvey Neighborhaod Traffrc Committee was provided with photos/images and <br /> infarmatian about a variety of traffc caEming options, and the City sent a rtotice to the <br /> entire neighi�art�aod encouraging residents fo participafe in the petition prtxx�ss. The <br /> Committee then ci�culated peti#i�s to gauge the ievel af community support for each <br /> optian, as outlined below. As a result af discussior�s between City staff and the <br /> Committee members, an additional option was developed for consideration — chokers <br /> on McGarvey at Femside. These community support resu[ts are derived from two <br /> pe#ition circu[atians (after fheir first effart, the Commiftee re-canvassed the <br /> neighborhood in order ta ensure ail relevant residents were contacted}. <br /> • Chokers on McGarvey at Chesterton {westl (chokers ar� curb extensions that <br /> narrow a street at certain points; see Aftachments 3 and 4} -- this option requires <br /> agreement by 60% of the 26 househoids within one block, and agreement by aI! <br /> households directiy at tt�e intersection. <br /> o The petitions showed that if did receive both the 60% s�pport, and support <br /> by all four residenc�s direetiy at the intersection. <br />
