6.11.11. - Page 24 of 47 <br />Non -Residential Sewer Rates — Non-residential customers pay usage -based sewer charges <br />applied based on customer class and metered water use, subject to a minimum monthly charge. <br />The rates for each customer class vary based on wastewater strength, with higher rates for <br />customers with higher -strength wastewater discharge. Non-residential rates are billed per <br />hundred cubic feet of water use, with one hundred cubic feet equal to approximately 748 gallons. <br />The City incurs a substantial amount of fixed costs providing capacity to serve customers on <br />demand, regardless of the volume of each customer's wastewater discharge. These fixed costs <br />include expenses for staffing, administration, sewer collection system infrastructure, and debt <br />service for SVCW's wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities. The minimum monthly <br />charge ensures that non-residential customers help fund the City's fixed costs of service incurred <br />for servicing all accounts, even when the volume of billable use is low. The minimum monthly <br />charge only applies in cases where usage -based charges would result in a monthly charge lower <br />than the minimum monthly charge. <br />The following table shows a schedule of the current sewer rates.
