6.F. - Page 2 of 5
The 2019 Striping Project will increase safety by enhacing existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and
will complete the resurfacing project by adding permanent pavement striping and markers on Marine
Parkway, Vera Avenue and Alameda de las Pulgas following the microsurfacing. Whipple Avenue, which
was previously resurfaced, will receive new thermoplastic striping. Project streets included in this phase
are shown on the attached Project Location Map (Attachemnt A). The 2019 Striping Project will remove
the temporary striping installed by the Microsurfacing Project and install permanent striping roughly one
to two weeks after the microsurfacing.
On certain streets, striping will be modified to increase safety and to improve operations. Changes to
increase the safety and comfort of people walking and bicycling are consistent with the City's complete
streets goals and the recently adopted citywide transportation plan, "RWCmoves." The proposed changes
will not remove existing travel lanes or parking.
Changes include:
Alameda de las Pulgas
• A "KEEP CLEAR" legend for northbound Alameda at Acacia Lane to make it easier for residents to
exit the street;
• A painted bulbout at the corner with Brewster to discourage speeding around that corner;
• Green markings to existing bike lanes on Marine Parkway and Alameda de las Pulgas;
• A marked crosswalk at Maddux Drive and Alameda de las Pulgas;
• A buffer to existing bike lanes on Alameda de las Pulgas, where space permits; and
• Shared roadway markings, "sharrows," on segments within the project area where there is not
enough space for bicycle lanes without removing parking or travel lanes.
Marine Parkway
• Green markings to existing bike lanes and new bicycle boxes; and
• Adjustments to the striping approaching US 101 from Redwood Shores.
Vera Avenue
• "Sharrows" on segments within the project area where there is not enough space for bicycle
lanes without removing parking or travel lanes.
Construction will be coordinated with other active and planned construction in the area.
ANALYSIS
Two (2) bids were received for the 2019 Striping Project by the bid deadline on May 16, 2019.
