❑ Rescuers should assist people to the assembly point only if doing so would not deprive the <br />rescue teams of resources necessary to treat those with immediate or otherwise substantial <br />medical needs. <br />❑ Some injured persons may need to be transported to medical facilities. To the extent possible, <br />obtain the identity and contact information of all injured persons. <br />❑ If persons being rescued provide information relevant to the ongoing situation, convey the <br />information to the appropriate responders. <br />To the extent possible, during the initial response phase, provide notifications to members of the public <br />through appropriate channels. Focus on providing information intended to keep members of the public <br />safe and informed as to the status of the active shooting/violent intruder event. <br />After carrying out these initial tasks, emergency responders should take the following actions: <br />❑ Obtain more detailed statements and contact information from all evacuated persons. <br />Ll Continue to provide medical treatment for all injured persons as needed, prioritizing those with <br />the greatest need for assistance. <br />❑ Conduct forensic investigations of the scene as appropriate. <br />Release evacuated persons from the assembly point when appropriate to do so. <br />❑ Continue to maintain perimeter security around the scene and assembly point. <br />❑ Support efforts at any family assistance center (FAC) activated for the incident. Provide staff to <br />the FAC as required. <br />❑ Continue to communicate to members of the public, through appropriate means, about the <br />incident. <br />The Redwood City Police Department Operations Center will likely be activated during an active <br />shooter/violent intruder event. <br />Direction and Control <br />For general information about direction and control during an active shooter/violent intruder event, <br />see the Concept of Operations section in the Basic Plan. <br />Increased Readiness Actions <br />Condition 3: There are reports of an active shooter/violent intruder and emergency staff are <br />responding. The EOC is operating at Level I (Information Level). <br />❑ Dispatch law enforcement and emergency medical response staff, along with other first <br />responders that may be needed. <br />❑ Alert off-duty first responders and other relevant staff to the situation and inform them that <br />they may be mobilized. <br />❑ Activate the Police Department Operations Center as needed. <br />❑ Reroute traffic as needed to isolate the scene. <br />D-5 <br />
