Such employees will receive a five percent (5%) of Base Pay <br />premium, effective upon date of hire or effective the first payroll <br />period following the submittal of qualifying paperwork and approval <br />of the Fire Chief, whichever is later. <br />7.6.2 Paramedic Premium Pay <br />Firefighter/Engineers who obtain and maintain certification in <br />auxiliary medical techniques, who become accredited to practice as <br />Paramedics in San Mateo County and who are assigned to work as a <br />paramedic for Redwood City will receive a nine and one-half percent <br />(9.5%) of Base Pay premium, effective upon the first payroll period <br />following submittal of qualifying paperwork and approval of the Fire <br />Chief. This shall be in addition to EMT Premium Pay, such that a Fire <br />Fighter/Engineer who is a licensed EMT and accredited and assigned <br />to practice as a Paramedic in San Mateo County for Redwood City <br />may receive a total fourteen and one-half percent (14.5%) of Base <br />Pay premium. <br />7.6.3 Except when promoted to Fire Captain or otherwise disqualified, <br />Paramedics shall remain licensed and accredited for a minimum of <br />four (4) years from the date the employee first receives the Redwood <br />City Paramedic incentive. <br />7.6.4 Fire Fighter/Engineers will maintain Paramedic Premium Pay when <br />temporarily acting in a higher classification. <br />7.6.5 Firefighter/Engineers may request to participate in a paramedic <br />training program, in furtherance of the employee's position, at the <br />City's expense. Such participation shall be subject to the approval of <br />the Fire Chief. <br />7.6.6 Captain's Paramedic Pay <br />Compensation to Fire Captains who obtain and maintain certification <br />in auxiliary medical techniques. Upon approval of the Fire Chief, Fire <br />Captains who obtain and maintain accreditation to practice as <br />Paramedics in San Mateo County will receive an additional two and <br />one-half percent (2.5%) of base salary premium. The Fire Captain <br />shall not be the primary medic on any piece of fire apparatus. <br />Fire Captains that retain the Paramedic accreditation will be subject <br />to all County and Redwood City Paramedic requirements including <br />continuing education (CE). Fire Captains with Paramedic <br />accreditation in San Mateo County will be the first Fire Captains <br />eligible to receive Captain's Paramedic pay. <br />11 <br />
