6.1C Page 15 In the fIrst round of workshops, MIG will conduct an innovative hands-on CIYfED training to allow community residents to become directly involved in the design process and get a thorough understanding of key CPTED principles. In addition, the workshops will touch on other principles of a safe community. At the kick-off workshop, MIG will also lead community members on a walking tour of the project area to identiry assets, opportunities, and community concerns. The mobile nature of the workshop makes it an ideal chance for families and other residents to participate at multiple levels. Community members will have an opportunity to put their new CPTED skills to work as they survey the project area and f1lld opportunities for change. The smaller community workshops be held in a "coffeehouse" format and \\'ill provide focused space for existing community groups and other residents to explore some of the key concerns in a hands-on manner. These workshops will be scheduled to dovetail with existing community events to ensure d1at a diverse group of residents is able to participate. Again, the MIG Team will conduct one large three-hour workshop and two smaller two-hour workshops. For the large workshop, MIG will again collaborate with the Multicultural Institute's seasoned tcam of community organizers. 11"le MIG Team will facilitate two simultaneous sessions, one in English and one in Spanish to help all members of the community feel safe, welcome, and free to speak openly. Both workshops will feature :rvUG's signature "wallgraphic" visual tools and will be facilitated by experienced MIG facilitators; the Spanish-language workshop will be facilitated by staff fluent in Spanish, with support from bilingual Multicultural Institute staff.
