07/28/2014 <br /> CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> PRINCIPAL ANALYST—WORKERS' COMPENSATION <br /> DEFINITION <br /> Under general direction, manages the City's Workers Compensation and safety <br /> programs supporting an effective and engaged workforce and sustainable service <br /> delivery. Provides professional assistance to the Human Resources Manager, and <br /> serves as a strategic partner of the Human Resources leadership team. <br /> DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> The Principal Analyst — Workers' Compensation is a supervisory, confidential <br /> classification. Incumbents are expected to work independently coordinating the full <br /> scope of the Worker's Compensation and Safety programs. This classification is <br /> distinguished from the Senior Human Resources Analyst in its requirement of <br /> specialized knowledge and experience in Worker's Compensation, occupational safety, <br /> and risk management. It is further distinguished from the Human Resources Manager <br /> in that the latter has overall responsibility for the management of the Human Resources <br /> Division. <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> Receives general direction from the Human Resources Manager. Responsibilities may <br /> include direct supervision of professional, paraprofessional and/or administrative <br /> support staff. <br /> EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES — Duties may include, but are <br /> not limited to, the following: <br /> 1. Administers and coordinates the City's Workers' Compensation program; <br /> identifies and implements opportunities for minimizing costs and improving <br /> service delivery in collaboration with the City's Third Party Administrator and <br /> department management. <br /> 2. Plans, develops, and implements the City's return-to-work program; works <br /> collaboratively with department management to develop and implement <br /> appropriate solutions to maximize employee recovery and minimize loss of <br /> productive time. <br /> 3.
