6.1C
7.INSTALl~12

INSTALLATIONS

You may find it helpful to create a master map of locations that throughout the months and
your conversations with artists, you can begin to fill in for upcoming dates. We find that most artists
need a three _ four month lead time to prepare. We created a rough map of our locations for each
exhibit period (one per 2 month exhibit.) You will find that these will ease confusion of who goes
where, when.

We do assist mtists with their installations (with human resources and often materials,) The amount of
materials is on a case by case basis. We provide paint, brushes, tarps, hardware, lighting and general
cleaning supplies. '

Depending on the number of storefronts you have in your project, it is ideal to schedule all the artists
over one weekend, but will find that you may have to make accommodations for altists that cannot
make it, or need an extra day to finish the install. We typically have the first weekend for removal of
artwork, and the following week and/or weekend be the install of the new exhibits.

It is necessary to keep in mind how important it is to be accommodating to the artists' schedules to
make the project successful. We are not in an age where most artists are working full time artists, but
rather trying to work full time jobs while trying to fulfill their passion to be an artist. This does
require more time and dedication to the project, but in the end it is worth it due to the success of the
project overall. Artists will remember your flexibility and will be one of the most vocal people of the
project to the general public (whether negative or positive is up to their experience of it),

For the actual installations, it will be wise to bring as many ladders, tools, hardware, ete as you have
available as it will be needed at some point. If you are prepared, it may avert another day of installa-
tion due to lack of materials.

We do advise the artists to keep in mind that passing buses/trucks often shake the storefront windows
and structures. Also, earthquakes and/or a rowdy pack of passersby may try to shake or bang on the
windows.

We try to be very minimal in impact with our installs and have the artists "leave it as they found it."
On occasion that will mean vacuuming, patching holes, scraping paint, ete. but as long as they are
aware before hand, they are accommodating,
