RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY PROPOSING CERTAIN AMENDMENTS TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AND ORDERING SUBMISSION THEREOF TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AT THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF APRIL 10, 1984 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The Council of Redwood City does hereby propose, on its motion, that those certain amendments hereinafter set forth be made to the Charter of the City of Redwood City, and does hereby order that such proposed Charter amendments be submitted to the electors of the City of Redwood City at the General Municipal

<br />DES:djg-c 12/8/83 <br /> <br />SECTION 4. <br /> <br />(a) The Council of Redwood City hereby proposes, <br /> <br />on its own motion, to amend the Charter of the City of Redwood <br /> <br />City by amending Sections 9, 17, 18, 21-1/2 and 47a. thereof to <br /> <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />"SECTION 9. THE COUNCIL: <br /> <br />"The Council shall be comprised of seven ee~fteiiffleft council <br />members, including the Mayor, and shall be the legislative body of <br />the city, each of the members of which, including the Mayor, shall <br />have the right to vote upon all questions before it. <br /> <br />"€e~fteiiffleft Council members shall be elected at each general <br />municipal election and shall hold office for the term of four <br />years from and after the Monday next succeeding the day of such <br />election and until their successors are elected and qualified. <br />The ee~fteiiffleft council members in office at the time of this <br />charter taking effect shall continue in office until the end of <br />the terms for which they were respectively elected. <br /> <br />"Any vacancy occurring in the Council shall be filled by <br />appointment by the remaining ee~fteiiffleft council members; but in <br />the event that said remaining ee~fteiiffleft council members fail to <br />fill such vacancy by appointment within 60 days after such vacancy <br />occurs, they must immediately cause an election to be held to fill <br />such vacancy; provided, however, that any person appointed to fill <br />such vacancy shall hold office only until the next regular <br />election, at which date a person shall be elected to serve for the <br />remainder of such unexpired term. In case a member of the Council <br />is absent from the city for a period of 90 days, unless by <br />permission of the Council, or ceases to be a resident and elector <br />of the city, His such member's office shall be declared vacant and <br />the same filled as in the case of other vacancies. <br /> <br />"The Council may provide by resolution for compensation of <br />its members in an amount not to exceed that allowed for Council <br />members of general law cities of equivalent population. <br />Adjustments to the initial rate of compensation established after <br />the effective date of the amendment hereto providing for <br />compensation by reference to Council member compensation of <br />general law cities may be made in amounts not to exceed those <br />allowed for general law city council members. Provision for <br />payment in accordance with the foregoing may be made when the <br />amendment hereto providing for such compensation is filed with the <br />Secretary of State, but in no event before July 1, 1982. <br /> <br />4 <br />
