SfP 1 3 1982 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; AND ADDING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO FIRE PREVENTION; AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1982 EDITION, " AS PUBLISHED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BUILDING OFFICIALS AND THE WESTERN FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Article II (commencing at 12.7) of Chapter 12 of the Code of the City of Redwood City is hereby repealed. SECTION 2. <br /> -- ,-- ._~---_.-- ._~_.__._. <br /> Such fire alarm system shall be so designed that all occupants of the <br /> building may be warned simultaneously, and shall be in accordance with <br /> Section E740-3(d), Part 3, Title 24, California Administrative Code. <br /> " , (b) No signal system or intercommunicating system used for <br /> any purpose other than fire warning meets the requi remen ts of this <br /> Article. <br /> '" (c) Installation, inspection, and maintenance of the fire <br /> alarm system shall be according to the standards set forth in NFPA <br /> Pamphlet No. 72A. <br /> " , (d) Stations for operating any manually operated fire alarm <br /> system shall be placed immediately adjacent to the telephone switchboard <br /> in the building, if there is a switchboard, and at such other locations <br /> as may be required by the Chief. <br /> '" (e) All residential buildings classified as Group R, <br /> Division 1 or 3 occupancies, as defined in the Uniform Building Code, <br /> 1979 Edition, and existing upon the effective date of this section, shall <br /> have installed in each unit therein an approved fire detection <br /> products-of-combustion except that devices sensitive only to heat shall <br /> not be acceptable. Alarm signaling devices shall be clearly audible in <br /> all bedrooms when all intervening doors are closed. The building owner <br /> shall be responsible for assuring that the alarm signaling devices <br /> required herein shall be maintained in an operable condition. <br /> "'Every such residential building shall conform to the <br /> provisions hereof at such time as an addition, alteration or repai r of a <br /> value in excess of One Thousand Dollars ($l,OOO.OO) is made thereto or <br /> before the close of escrow if the building is sold. <br /> In any event, all residential buildings shall conform to the <br /> provisions hereof by July l, 19 84. <br /> -13- <br /> _.e._' <br />
