neighborhood traffic circles). The plans shall consist of a plan view conceptual design of
the corridor, augmented by callout notes and pavement marking, signage, and traffic
calming details, as necessary. A general overview of proposed treatments that apply
consistently along the corridor (e.g., uniform enhanced crosswalk markings, speed
cushions, wayfinding) shall be included with sample images and locations for said
improvements. These concepts will be reviewed with the City during an in-person
meeting, and City comments will be incorporated into the next phase of design, 95%
design (Task 4). To develop the improvement concepts, consultant shall consider
innovative treatments that are considered state of the practice for creating safer and more
comfortable places for walking and biking. Typical bike boulevard treatments shall be
considered, including bicycle route signage and wayfinding; pavement markings; speed
humps,; intersection treatments such as traffic circles and curb extensions that can be
created using low-cost, removable materials; and bicycle and pedestrian treatments at
two larger intersections: Vera Avenue/Hudson Street, Vera Avenue/Upton Street.
All design treatments shall be implementable with materials that have some longevity, but
can be easily relocated or modified as necessary using high -impact, low-cost engineering
solutions (e.g., pavement markings, signs, flex posts, planters, Qwick Kurbs or armadillos,
signal timing modifications, etc.).
TASK 3 DELIVERABLES
15% concept design plans
TASK 4: DEVELOP 95% PLANS, SPECIFICATIONS AND ESTIMATES
After receiving comments on 15% concept design plans, consultant shall prepare 95%
design Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E). Consultant shall develop a summary
report that documents the design decision process, specifically how the latest standards
have been incorporated into the PS&E package, including design standards from
Redwood City, California MUTCD, and Caltrans Standard Plans. The submittal will
include the following:
Title sheet
• General notes and legend
• Right-of-way lines and existing conditions
• Proposed civil improvements (e.g., median islands, pedestrian ramps, etc.)
• Proposed signage and pavement markings
• Demolition Plan (if applicable)
• City and state standard details
Construction notes
• Specifications
• Draft construction quantity and cost estimates
• Construction schedule
REV: 11-27-19 PR
ATrY/AGR.2019.295/-roole Design Group (Page 13 of 17)
