4.A. - Page 41(!FC
PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER
• Her neighborhood mostly Hispanic but might not have the same participation/benefits as
rest of community in RWC; police presence not as positive; strong concern for
gentrification
• acceleration of gentrification impacting POC in inequitable ways; people forced out of
area because unaffordability of living, not sanctuary city, presence of ICE
• hardly any Black people in RWC anymore while Fair Oaks used to be mostly Black
(wondering what happened?)
• can see and empathetic about gentrification concerns even if doesn't affect him (speaker)
personally because of his economic advantaged status; seeing other people having to
commute 2 h and thinks not ok- people should be able to live close to their work.
• segregated neighborhoods: seeing same people as her in her neighborhood. Seeing that
she doesn't have same experience with police as white person (example: not bothered if
she is loitering)
• Sequoia High School, PTSA really engaged, equity, creates opportunity for students
especially in COVID to success at schools.
• Shooting school because budget issues, rezoning kids to other schools mostly white high
income, kids have to mix with other kids and "some parents" where concern about it.
• Education: families faced some challenges as segregation, eliminating schools to people
don't drive, how this can go thru?
• Should be inclusion to people that have not voice
• Living near to Sequoia Hospital is really weird to see a police car, concerns about why it
is more presence of PD in another area
• Some areas have not contract, especially areas where is not PD jurisdiction
• Many people from the community don't feel comfortable
• my identity has been tokenized and it's painful to watch. Equaling BLM to Trump. We
don't have a renter's association. My father had a job and lived on the streets of RWC.
First generation. It's difficult when others have a one -million -dollar house. Devaluing
low income people. I feel like we don't matter as much. Cleansing out brown people.
Tired of weaponizing my identity as a person of color in RWC.
• been in the community 25 years. He raised a family and did not pay attention to the
community. Joined org. 2020 with school, city health had eyes and ears open. Watching
the city become more gentrified and worried we are losing that.
• white mother of biracial kids. Kids have been amazing teachers about white privilege.
• Woodside High School the new Menlo -Atherton, like a private school fundraiser. Racist
issues. Her black son was rejected by white parents to date their white daughter. Daughter
transferred to Sequoia and found it welcoming. It's painful for her microaggressions from
black to Hispanics. Asked the school to talk to kids about talking on social media about
racist conversations. Ask to get people involved at Stanford with SPARKS- Police
partnerships
• works at Boys and Girls Club in RWC. The exhaustion in the older kids to make mistakes
in front of other kids. Students of color need resources in schools to support them for
access and equity.
• led the ethnic studies at MA for sports nights. Teachers are white and cannot relate to
being ethnic and challenges that leads to truancy.
• Before moving here, aware of this idea of there being 2 RWC- white ppl would live in
one area and black/brown would be in another- i knew that before i moved here
77
