4.A. - Page PFc
PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER
• 5 -yr resident, shocking total lack of black people, not like east coast, from where she me,
Community Building Academy -absent but heard that session at jail included triggering
words, racial undertones
• Don't have anything to share -not in a category disfavored, try to have conversations with
young police officers going solo -reminding them to speak up if they see something
• Lifelong resident RWC changed a lot, gang neighborhoods cleaned out, police stopping
families in front of schools -scaring them, not experienced personally but have seen others
being targeted
• Seeing youth at juvenile hall for minor offenses, Latinx & black
• RWC is one of the more mellow racially equitable places I have lived (many countries,
places)
• As affluent white person, most inequity is in school funding; Powerhouse PTAs/PTOs
who drive, raise $$$; this changes opportunities for those schools whose parents have less
resource
• Absolutely agree about parental ability to raise funds and disproportionate impact
• Mostly Latin in my school, whereas City is not as Hispanic
• Parent of child in Sp/Eng immersion — great experience for him; history of exclusionary
zoning, red -lining in RWC
• Notice in school that classes not diverse — small white/Asian unless AP
• Haven't seen inequity
• Not sure how many whites are in poverty but many Latin are clearly in poverty
• Single mom, disabled, with 2 children — her white kids were discriminated against (made
fun of at school, in Sp,) — difficult experience for children; feel like a white minority in
my apt complex. I'm in poverty
• Coming from place of privilege, still see it from experience of students
• Strong desire to understand and help
Racism has been traumatic experience-- still triggering and hard to talk and have
conversations, in place like this.
Racial inequity seen in Housing, police treatment, education.
• Recipient of privilege, awakening to understanding interaction
• Not direct experience but hears it coming from students... instances when she had speak
up, she is coming from restorative justice and have to "train" police
• Housing disparity with unaffordability... multigenerational families being evicted
• students weary of police on campus even if he comes with doughnut, students weary
• Casual racism, hears lots of racism around her in neighborhood, from all, including from
POC. This conversation is Triggering ---hard to speak up; Lots of pain and anger about
being dismissed, and still seeing that kids are not protected by the adults who should.
• Feels unequal treatment based on Socio economic; wants to understand experience of
others
• Appreciated the experiences that children had to interact with a diverse group of children
growing up. Neighborhoods are segregated by ethnicity. Society is better when we are
rubbing elbows with others more.
• Cities "feels" segregated. Infrastructure with the internet isn't equitable within
neighborhoods.
• Here to learn about racial equity and understand the needs. Listening more than talking.
Need to understand where we can create more access.
M
