4.A. - Page r ( Fc
PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER
• Adding to above, there's not a lot of voices that should be speaking- people like me have
an opportunity to speak- that is a major gap
• Defunding: favor to want to hear from professionals that could really help
• A potential solution: i don't know if what I'm saying is what they really want
• As a victim of crime, I did not feel supportive- even with my privilege I didn't feel
• BLM being removed from city - that is opposite - it made national news in RWC let's
make it for better reason
• Agree with several police: defunding police should be a priority- BLM started because of
that - it is urgent - the longer we wait life or death consequences
• An opportunity for the city or investigates misconduct of city police- we hear "that
doesn't happen our city" - that's not true - made reference to KTVU- address them not
under the rug - 16 ppl actually were involved- important to note
• It was gender related- felt dismissed
o Seek healing?
o Question within group: did you feel like
• Defunding police: the core concept is true and necessary- feel like the city with the - can
be at the forefront of change- see city leadership to pursue that narrative - the county to
do this in partnership
o Policing in the 21st century looks like
o "Look at what our City did"
o I will elect council members
• Would love to see police not in school; idea of having kids having any contact with
police is very disturbing, see in police logs that they are visiting schools every day, would
like to know more on why; would like to see more representation from our leadership in
the community, doing a very good jobibest they know how, would like to see more
representation, has perception that people in the hills are controlling the city, don't see
faces reelected in leadership, some things we could do to make it easier for Latinx to join
boards, for instance, councilmembers are volunteer, which is commendable but limits
who can participate, saw rental assistance got slashed in last budget, was disappointed
about that; still so much racism in people's minds and hearts, Bay Area hides behind
progressive image, e.g., difference in how a black woman and white man are treated for
an off leash dog; white people can interrogate their bias, mae that a community value,
inclusion is expected, don't tolerate the status quo
• police officers at schools, she thinks it started around time of school shootings, though a
police presence would help; re: representation, that leadership is all from the western
neighborhoods; believe that citywide elections vs district elections were meant to address
that; surprised that no Latinx candidates came forward for next elections; also knows
BCCs are predominantly older white people; people need to get involved, feels change
won't happen until people get more involved; she moved into a working class
neighborhood (at the time), lower western hills, zoned single family, if duplexes/triplexes
were allowed, it would help; for example, her house she could do one 3000 sq ft house
but not two 1400 sq ft house; ADUs may help; in order to get the changes, she feels its
individuals that have to change vs City
• getting involved is important, there are some structural obstacles to getting involved
sometimes, tendency to blame the individual; equity advisor within the school district so
that the decisions that are made, even if unintentional, are reviewed for equity
M
