4.A. - Page r 11Fc
PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER
City has not posted or provided answers to those initial questions. I have followed up
with an emd to the address provided last night, but want to assure that this sentiment is
captured in your report
• The largest impact of Covid is in the Latinx community. If you need to get a test. It's two
weeks for essential workers. Look at the policy around tests and test results which would
need more money. Better communication because of misinformation about testing and
tracing people. Improve the education so a swab cannot be traced or is a painful
procedure.
• Defund the policy, taxing big corporations like FB, taxing for ABNB, securing housing
for all. Priority Housing for everyone. We could become a sanctuary city. Taxing the rich
for universal housing. Universal representation.
• Taking money from police to train mental health experts. To create jobs for the mental
health citizens.
• How the city responds to mental health without a badge or a gun. Or looks like the person
having the mental health problem.
• would not call the police because a human life could be lost.
• Reopen the library for shelter and students and beneficial in the community in the winter
and during Covad.
• some people want to use defending, or use other language to be heard in the community.
• In order for real change to occur for law enforcement and community legitimate truth and
reconciliation- it will take police to come to the table, and say "yes, we have screwed up
etc." and the system has been messed up and we want to work with you - i would love to
see that happen - i heard someone chief speak that BLM .
• Agree ^^^ we are trying to resolve a national problem on a local level - how can we be
leaders and not be followers - lead the dialogue
• Agree ^^ there's an opportunity for police to be a partner and build alternatives to
policing - you've heard "we aren't equipped" police can be a partner - not just take
money away and spending it support addressing problems - better for them - police not
leading that discussion but be a partner - they can choose
o They do know if they aren't equipped - why wouldn't they want to want to co -
lead that conversation- wondering why they aren't
o Experience working in law enforcement- it happens over- police are very
defensive -
• Appreciate what has been said- energy for the idea that RWC be at the forefront the
change
• We hope to hear them "we aren't social workers" and be a part of the system
• descope police; non -police response to noise complaints, mental health; redirect to better
trained and save money; defending police and reallocating to focus on crime prevention
• less interactions with the police, should be bare minimum, violent crime focus, as a
physician, don't see a role for police responding to mental health issues; fund
professionals to respond; no reason for an armed officer to respond to a noise complaint;
eliminate minor traffic violations that she feels are a pipeline to incarceration; police are
the armed enforcers of a racist system; may be good guys doing their job as best as they
can but in RWC interactions with the police aren't going to make our city better
• agree on descoping/defunding police; know it's contentious; don't expect police to
disappear overnight, focus on most basic functions, reduce amount of contact between
94
