4.A. - Page 11Fc
PENINSULA CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER
police and the communities are at more risk by that interaction; fund other services
(libraries), wealth disparities
• feel like it's very important when we talk about equity on input and outcomes; focus on if
it's a level playing field; can't ignore system inequities; be aware of manufactured
disadvantages that creates inequities; recommends that we focus on equitable outcomes,
which can result in more resources for black and brown people to change outcomes; for
instance, when policing is biased in outcomes, need to create equitable results
• Decrease sizes of housing to accommodate more families
• Better reallocation of who shows up to different situations - police officer vs social
worker
• Representation of people in leadership and add diversity in stakeholder spaces.
• Advisory committee to oversee decisions and creating processes to eliminate biases
related to funding
• Invite police to the community to get to know the community and find ways to serve the
community.
• Counselors in schools to support students in schools
• National database with the names of officers involved in excessive force toward
community
• Committees that have the authority to punish, prosecute and hold police officers
accountable when they've committed crimes - completely independent
• Community Policing - No law enforcement in community. Find another way to build
community relations outside of National Night Out.
• Cahoots program - Mental health personnel responding to mental health related situations
in the community.
• Equal and equitable services to minority communities.
• Thankful for the space to have voices heard.
• Thankful that the city is creating spaces for voices to be heard.
• Housing, small businesses, support for the parents were mentioned.
• Other ideas:
• One still getting to know the city, but has done census work, there is some level of more
representation in government. If one were undocumented or lower income, they may not
feel secure in reporting issues. COVID health may is very highly concentrated in
certain parts of RWC.
• Would like more outreach in multiple languages. Needs Opportunity for outreach to
everyone which benefits everyone. Big opportunity for City to do better outreach.
• (User -centered) Design outreach to make it easy to access for all, including the
"weakest", for whom it's hard to access these events. "Town halls" with city are
intimidating.
o Communication needs to be a two-way street in order to further transparency.
• RWC needs to think about how these sessions can be advertised, more dialogue sessions,
more attendance at City Council meetings.
• Support for parents/children in the form of grants to allow supervision, computers
and tutoring support.
• How can we build trust?
95
