6.J.- Page 2of5
ANALYSIS
The City is requesting that the City Council support applications for grant funding for the following
projects, which the Transportation Advisory Committee recommended at their September 9, 2020
meeting:
• Roosevelt Avenue Pilot Traffic Calming Implementation — The $895k project includes the pilot
installation of traffic calming measures identified in the Roosevelt Avenue Traffic Calming Plan
and its evaluation. The City Council approved the Plan at its August 24, 2020 meeting. Prior to
putting the project out to bid for construction, the City Council will have the opportunity to
approve the final design. The grant request is for $625k with a local match of $270k.
• EI Camino Real Corridor Safety Improvements—The $400k project includes the design of bicycle
and pedestrian improvements along EI Camino Real between Brewster Avenue and the southern
city limit. This work builds on the approved EI Camino Real Corridor Plan (approved by City Council
on December 4, 2017), the Bike & Ped Safety Improvement Study: EI Camino Real between Maple
and Charter Streets (received by the City Council on February 25, 2019), and Caltrans' 2018 Road
Safety Audit. The City Council will have the opportunity to review and approve the scope of work
when the design contract is awarded. The grant request is for $300k with a local match of $100k.
Each of these projects have been in development for a number of years, have gone through extensive
community planning processes, and are in need of additional funding for a future phase of work. In
addition, they support programs and policies in the Circulation Element of the General Plan and advance
the City's vision from RWCmoves to "promote the best travel experience possible for everyone in
Redwood City by creating and maintaining a safe, multimodal, and accessible transportation network."
FISCAL IMPACT
The local match for the grant projects will be covered by the Gas Tax Fund as outlined in Table 1 below.
Funding for the local matches is included in the Fiscal Year 2020-21 Capital Improvement Program budget.
...
Project
Grant Request
Gas Tax Fund
(Fund 262)
Roosevelt Avenue
$625,000
$269,834
Pilot Traffic Calming
Implementation
EI Camino Real
$300,000
$100,000
Corridor Safety
Project (Design)
Total
$925,000
$369,834
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcitV.org
82
