Date: Monday, November 9, 2020 2:27:31 PM Lower Redwood Avenue residents expressed concern at earlier public hearings for the health and safety risks associated with cut -through traffic expected to be generated by the South Main Mixed Use Project. At a community meeting held September 2, 2020, a traffic calming proposal for Redwood Avenue (between El Camino Real and Hudson) was presented as sponsored by Greystar. At the Transportation Advisory Committee on September 8, 2020, this proposal was discussion Item B. The proposed design is as available for viewing on the City's website 11/09/2020. At this time, I understand that Greystar (as represented by Jonathan Fearn) is committed to making the Redwood Avenue improvements and that the City of Redwood City (as represented by staff members Manzi and Chan) will memorialize the commitment as a condition of approval for the South Main Mixed Use Project. Most affected Redwood Avenue residents are appreciative of the City's and the Developer's efforts, look forward to the construction of the improvements as soon as possible, desire technical city staff s continued engagement to ensure the efficacy of traffic calming efforts, and ask the City to consider the opportunity for a value added project by replacing greatly deteriorated sidewalk/curb/gutter in the same area. Staff has not clarified the current status of roadway projects proposed in the El Camino Real Corridor Plan that potentially redirect and increase vehicular traffic on Redwood Avenue between El Camino Real and Hudson. I remain adamantly opposed to any and all roadway reconfigurations, including the extension of Main Street across El Camino Real and the relocation of signal lights from Oak to Redwood, that may result in Redwood Avenue bearing a disproportionate and disadvantageous amount of risk to health and safety from cut -through vehicular traffic potentially generated by South Main Mixed Use Project.
