<br />8A <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />EPA Seeking Public Comment on Water Strategy <br /> <br />The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requests public comment on its draft strategy <br />addressing the impacts of climate change on water programs and proposed EPA response. <br /> <br />The draft, titled National Water Program Strategy: Response to Climate Change, examines the <br />following: <br /> <br />. Increases in certain water pollution problems; <br />. Changes to availability of drinking water supplies; and <br />. Significant collective impacts on coastal areas. <br /> <br />The draft proposes 46 actions the National Water Program will take to respond to climate change. <br />Action items include adaptation, research, mitigation and education. The final strategy will only <br />include actions that can be initiated in FY 2008 or 2009. <br /> <br />Public Comment Process <br /> <br />The draft strategy can be found online at www.epa.gov/water/climatechanQe. <br /> <br />Public comment on the draft strategy is due May 27. Irvine was recognized in the <br />Energy Innovation category, Long Beach was recognized in the Water Management category, <br />San Jose was recognized in the Purchasing category, and Los Angeles Water and Power was <br />recognized in the Climate Change category. <br /> <br />The Green California Leadership Award was created as a way to recognize outstanding <br />environmental achievements in the public sector.
