<br />Jill Ekas, Planning Manager, provided a brief report on the status of the current General <br />Plan outreach process. Ms. Ekas introduced the speakers providing biographical data. <br /> <br />Don Weden addressed the Council with a presentation called "Winds of Change" (on file). <br />Will Travis followed with a presentation regarding the Bay area and its shoreline <br />(presentation on file). <br /> <br />Mayor Foust suggested a 10-minute recess at 9:10 p.m. Council resumed at 9:20 p.m. <br /> <br />Melissa Hippard, with the Sierra Club, thanked the speakers and she concurs with all <br />comments made by the two presenters. She believes the City needs to complete its <br />climate plan prior to completing the General Plan. She believes there is a strong <br />ecological sense in the community. She asked the Council to havean election on any <br />Cargill project. <br /> <br />Sarah Stapleton teaches environmental science and she is proud to walk the talk by biking <br />to work. She asked Council to consider these important issues. She is happy with what <br />has happened in Redwood City and she wants it to be a walkable place. <br /> <br />Judy Hanson said she has worked on campaigns and she thanked Council for the <br />downtown and the community building isreally important to her. She took part in Wand <br />admits she was a bit confused. She said that she worries about nature and she is glad <br />someone has that land where she walks often. <br /> <br />Ralph Nobles thanked the speakers and he believes the messages should be taken to <br />heart. Mr. Nobles said that the good news is that the land taken from the bay was to do <br />salt and most of that land can be restored to wetlands. <br /> <br />Sean Pounder said he is a High School student and he is grateful for the presentations <br />tonight. He is hopeful that there is awareness about these important issues. He was very <br />pleased that people in the City are supportive and progressive. <br /> <br />Rick Nordensten is a member of the Cool Cities Team and he referred to a report that <br />came out recently. He thanked the Council for having the speakers and he thanked Ms. <br />Gonzalez and Ms. Ross. He echoed Melissa Hippard's request on getting some specific <br />guidelines on the environmental component. <br /> <br />James Jonas stated that what we need is plan B for the Cargill site. He proposes floating <br />communities and what is needed is a new plan, a new policy and a new project that can <br />bridge environmental concerns with developmental needs. He asked for a new floating <br />community. <br /> <br />Council discussion: <br />Questions were posed of the speakers regarding resources and Mr. Travis explained that <br />there is a website www.bcdc.ca.Qov where a lot of information is available. It was <br />suggested that specific environmental goals be put into the plan. One Council Member <br />suggested working with the Council on a mechanism to have a public vote on projects of a <br />certain size. One Council Member asked if it would be possible to do the Green Gas <br />Emissions and the Climate Action Plan.
