[IDOOfA\~W\
lAi l1agfJ 3

Housing Plan

Redwood City's long-term housing goa'l is to facilitate and encourage
housing that fulfills the diverse needs of the community. The City is
committed to providing safe and sanitary housing opportunities in
suitable locations for all segments of the population.

The Housing Plan identifies long-term' housing goals and shorter-term
policies to address the identified housing needs. The goals and policies
are implemented through a series of housing programs. Programs
identify specific actions the City will undertake toward putting each goal
and policy into action.

The goals, policies, and program's build upon the identified housing
needs in the community, constraints confronting the City, and resources
available to address the housing needs. This Plan will guide City housing
policy through the 2009-2014 planning period. Redwood City's housing
goals, policies, and programs address the six major housing needs
identified by State law:

. Maintain and preserve the existing affordable housing stock
. Assist in the development of affordable housing
. Identify adequate sites to achieve a variety and diversity of
housing
. Remove constraints to housing development
. Promote equal housing opportunity
. Provide programs to meet other identified housing needs

Tbe City's Housing and Human Concerns Committee provides guidance
on housing policies and programs. The Committee's goal is to advocate
the improvement of the quality of life for Redwood City citizens and to
ensure that housing and human considerations, as set forth in the
General Plan, are given adequate consideration in physical and
economic decision making. The Committee encourages social
responsiveness in legislation, zoning, police powers, and recreation
programs.

Redwood City takes a comprehensive approach to housing planning.
Housing, land use, economic development, and transportation policies
work together to address the total housing need in Redwood City. The
General Plan Implementation Plan illustrates the interconnectedness of
planning for each of these categories.

"p~nI..~.iI=1II'j"!J

an Page

i--.
