(Action H-4)

~~1if:~J:'W

Providing affordable housing is essential for a healthy and balanced
community. In addition to a diverse mix of housing types, it is necessary
to make housing available for residents of all income levels. Throughout
the Bay Area, residents face increasing challenges in finding affordable
housing due to high housing demand at all levels. High demand and
short supply have driven property values to levels that have shut many
families and individuals out of the ownership market as well affordable
rental housing. Lower-income families in particular find it difficult to
secure decent, safe housing.

The Redwood City Redevelopment Agency actively works with both
non-profit and for-profit developers to assist in the production of
affordable for-sate and rental housing. Seeking fundIng from, varied
sources increases opportunities for the development of affordable
housing. The City also recognizes that homeownership plays a
significant role, in establishing strong neighborhoods and a sense of
community pride. As such, Redwood City supports programs that make
purchasing a home a realistic option for lower-income households.

Policy H-2.1 Pursue and maximize the use of State, Federal, local,
and private funding for the development. preservation,
and rehabilitation of housing affordable to very low~,
low-, and moderate-income households. (Action H-5)

Policy H-2.2 Support collaborative partnerships with nonprofit
organizations, developers, neighborhoods, and State
and Federal agencies to develop, rehabilitate, preserve,
and retain affordable housing. (Action H-2, Action H~5)

Policy H-2.3 Continue to promote homeownership assistance
programs as a means of enhancing neighborhood
stability. (Action H-6)
