6.1 D
Page 14
and asphalt repair for the 10 lacations. The excaating estimates wifl be submitted to the Ci#y under a
separa#e letter.
V&A wiEl be on-site during excaation to attach the test leads#a the pipe{ies and measure ultrasonic
thickness of the exposed pipeEines. Phase l will determine the existing condition o#the pipelines,
determinef the corrosion monitoring systems require rehabilitatian pror to instaqation of the cathodic
protection system and determine if the pipelines are suitable for installation a#the cathodic protection
system.
Phase I will de#ermine the type af cathodic protection system that is appropriate for each pipelne and
determine if there is other wark that should be included with the installation o#the cathodic protecion
system. Phase II will involve the design of the cathodic pro#ection system for the two pipelines. The
preliminary scope of work for Phase f1 is indicated below. The fnal scope of work and fee for the
cathodic protecion design will be de#ermned during Phase i.
SCOPE OF W4RK
Task Descrip#on
Phase i--Pipeline Evaluation
1. Dacument Review—Review the pipeline alignment, leak repots, geotechnical reports and
avaiable drawings and documents for the pipelines.
2. Initiai Field Evaluation—Perform an evalua#ion to loca#e test s#ations and test points,and
to measure baseline potentials at accessible test points. Test methods will be determined
in the field and will be based on access to test points. Proposed methods include:
• Pipe-to-soil potentials
• Curret requirement tests
• Electr'rca(cantinuity tes#s
3. Test Stafiion Locations--Indicate the locations for installation of new pipe[ine#est stations.
Centerline location and excavation of the pipelines will be completed by oters in
accordance with City standards. Approximately 10 tes#stations will be installed, however
the quantity and locations will be determined during the initia!field ealuation. Proposed
#est stations will be at cri#icaf locations including:
• 80 fio 1000-foot intervals for the buried length of the pipelines
• Ends of the metallic pipelines
• Buried insulating joint locations
4. Test Station Installation and Direct Assessment—EVleasure the remaining wall thickness
and corrosion pit depths of the exposedipe[ines using an ultrasonic thicicness meter and
pit depth gauge.
