<br />6.2A <br />The apparent low bid by ICC General Contractors, Inc., contained a significant error and Page 2 <br />the contractor requested to withdraw their bid. Staff, exercising discretion, determined <br />that the interests of this project were best served by accepting ICC's bid withdrawal. <br /> <br />The low base bid of $635,000.00 from Rodan Builders, Inc. is 1.7% lower than the <br />engineer's estimate for the cost of construction. Based on the bids received, staff <br />believes that the low base bid of $635,000.00 is fair and reasonable and recommends <br />awarding the contract to Rodan Builders, Inc. <br /> <br />AL TERNA TlVES <br />Council may choose not to award the proposed contract and direct staff to redesign and <br />re-advertise this project for bidding. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Design of this project increased beyond the scope of the original budget. Furthermore, <br />recent changes in the seismic code require strengthening the structural connections <br />which increase the cost of this project. Funds were previously appropriated in the <br />Capital Projects Fund budget as Main Ubrary 2006 Renovation with a current balance <br />of $206,898.00 and Roof and HVAC Program with a current balance of $272,089.00. <br />Additional funds are required and are available from the Capital Projects Fund - <br />Contingency budget. Staff requests an additional appropriation of $285,000.00 to <br />complete the funding for the proposed agreement and provide for the cost of <br />construction administration.
