was my entire income.
If you implement the ban on ALL ADUs new and existing,
Redwood City will lose the short term rental tax income Redwood City
automatically receives through short term rental platforms.
Redwood City will lose my income tax revenue from this rental income.
Are you willing and able to compensate me for the tens of thousands of dollars I will
lose every year in rental income? There is surely no way or will to do so.
Any ban on ALL short term rentals of ADUs in Redwood City will create a NEW
housing crisis for homeowners like me who depend on this income.
I suggest you experiment with new housing stock related legislation only on NEW
ADU permitted construction. Your new regulations will be included in new building
considerations before building starts, without negatively impacting existing ADU
owners.
With demand for short and long term rental housing massively down due to COVID,
why punish your tax -paying homeowners further?
You are not required to ban short term rentals of existing ADUs in the California
State legislation.
You have a clear legal path forward that allows for housing innovation going forward
(focus regulations on new construction going forward) without harming your existing
ADU homeowners.
I am astounded that in our current pandemic and economic crisis, the Redwood City
City Council would consider measures that would unnecessarily cut potential sources
of critical income for residents.
The Redwood City Council voted 4-3 in favor of this approach on July 13th 2020.
