6.C. - Page 55 of 147
Contractor Safety Checklist Cargill, Inc.
unless job function prohibits or creates a greater risk.
3. If you discover a fire, immediately call 911 and notify Cargill.
4. If a contractor employee is injured and requires medical attention, immediately call 911.
5. Prior to performing any work, contractors must provide a complete list of ALL chemicals or
substances they will bring on site and provide an SDS if requested by Cargill. All chemicals
should be placed on or within secondary containment.
6. Any spills of fuel, oil, solvent, brine, chemicals, or any other pollutant must be contained and
reported to Cargill immediately. The contractor will be required to participate in the incident
investigation and the physical clean-up and will be required to bear the costs of clean-up and
proper disposal.
7. Cargill's buildings and grounds may contain both Lead and Asbestos materials. Only approved
and licensed Contractors may disturb Lead and/or Asbestos.
8. No individual shall lift a weight greater than 60 pounds. If an object weighing more than 60
pounds must be lifted, multiple people will be used or mechanical lifting such as a forklift or
crane will be used. If the object is less than 60 lbs. but is awkward for a single person, multiple
people or mechanical lifting should be used.
9. All Cal/OSHA regulations regarding welding and hot work must be followed, including
proper eye, face, hand, body, and respiratory protection. Contractors must supply their own fire
extinguishers when a fire watch is required. Fire watch must be performed by someone other
than the person performing the hot work. After the hot work is completed, a Fire Watch is
maintained for 60 minutes.
10. Underground survey is required prior to core drilling, boring, or trenching work.
11. Fall protection is required for all work performed at or above 4 feet (this applies to the
individual's feet being greater than 4 ft from the ground). Contractors shall provide all fall
protection training and equipment for their employees. Contractors are not allowed to go on
any building roof without approval from Cargill and completion of Roofing Checklist. If an
individual is within 10 feet from the edge of the roof, fall restraint must be used. Tools and
materials cannot be stored within 15 feet of edge. Fall protection must be used in the following
scenarios: stepping on a ladder within 6 feet of the guardrail, or leading edge, and any time
when 3 points of contact cannot be maintained.
12. Aerial lift (boom and scissor lifts) operators must be trained. Daily equipment inspections must
be performed and available for review. The use of fall protection harnesses and fixed length
lanyards or aerial lift designed SRL's are required when working from all aerial lifts. Aerial
lifts may not be used as cranes to lift materials. Operators may not stand on lift railings or any
other object other than the floor of the basket on a lift.
13. Contractors are to use proper ladders or scaffolding for the task. Ladders must be inspected
prior to every use and must be used in the correct manner. Example, A frame ladders need to
be opened and locked and not used as an extension ladder. Scaffold users must have proof of
proper training before utilizing scaffolding. Climbing on piping, equipment or structural steel
is not allowed.
14. All scaffolds with a ladder run > 10' without the ability to exit onto a platform, or within 6' of
a hand rail or leading edge requires fall protection while ascending/descending the scaffold.
Contractor Safety Checklist template redline for San Mateo County 7 15 2020.docx
Page 2 of 5
148
