Fire Hydrant Placement Near Buildings – Fire hydrants close to the building are <br />to be installed as approved in the AMMR, with the AMMR placed on the building <br />permit application plans. <br /> <br />36. Public Address System – In buildings four or more stories in height, a public <br />address system is required to be installed for the exclusive use of fire department <br />personnel, peace officers, or other City enforcement personnel according to <br />specifications approved by the Fire Prevention Bureau. Controls for, and access to, <br />such system must be installed on the ground floor of the building at a location subject <br />to the approval of the fire code official. [CFC 907.2.12.3.1-C and Redwood City Code <br />of Ordinances §12.23] A separate public address system is not required to be <br />installed when an emergency voice alarm communication system (EVACS) is <br />installed throughout per CFC §907.5.2.2, to fulfill the public address system <br />requirements. <br /> <br />37. Open Flame Devices in Assembly Occupancies (Roof Gardens) – Unless <br />permitted by the local fire code official, open flame devices (e.g., candles, torches, <br />fireplaces, fire pits, and similar open flame features) in places of public assembly are <br />prohibited. [CFC §308.2 and 308.3]. <br /> <br />38. Construction Egress and Standpipes – During construction when building <br />construction exceeds 40 feet in height above the lowest level of fire department <br />vehicle access a temporary or permanent stairway must be provided, and as <br />construction progresses, the stairway must be extended to within one floor of the <br />highest point of construction, having secured decking or flooring, and not less than <br />one Class I standpipe must be provided for use, and the standpipe must be installed <br />prior to construction exceeding 40 feet in height above the lowest level of fire <br />department vehicle access, with the standpipe provided with fire department hose <br />connections at locations adjacent to the stairways and must be extended to within <br />one floor of the highest point of construction having secured decking or flooring. <br />[CFC §3311.1 and CFC §3313.1] <br /> <br />39. Electric Vehicle Charging Station(s) (Sheets AP2.11 and AP 2.12) – Where the <br />equipment is listed for charging electric vehicles that require ventilation for indoor <br />charging and is marked in accordance with NFPA 70-§625.15(C), mechanical <br />ventilation, such as a fan, shall be provided. The ventilation shall include both supply <br />and exhaust equipment and shall be permanently installed and located to intake <br />from, and vent directly to, the outdoors. Positive-pressure ventilation systems shall <br />be permitted only in vehicle charging buildings or areas that have been specifically <br />designed and approved for that application. Mechanical ventilation requirements <br />shall be determined by one of the methods specified in NFPA 70-625.52(B)(1) <br />through (B)(4). The supply circuit to the mechanical ventilation equipment shall be <br />electrically interlocked with the equipment and shall remain energized during the <br />entire electric vehicle charging cycle.
