d. Consultant will test for project electrical isolation in accordance with NACE
International SP0286-07 and investigate any source of stray current. Consultant
understands that the effectiveness of the cathodic protection system depends on
the electrical isolation between the buried pipelines and the electrical grounding
system and above -grade pipelines. Therefore, rehabilitation and improving the
effectiveness of the cathodic protection system will include evaluating and
installing dielectric insulating kits at critical junctions and system components as
required to comply with NACE Standards.
e. Consultant will perform stray current investigation to ascertain the presence and
effects of nearby impressed current systems.
f. Consultant will test Electrical Continuity along the pipeline using the following
methods: Circulating current test method, application of temporary cathodic
protection current, measuring earth gradients between two electrodes while
applying temporary cathodic protection current. Coating conductance tests will be
performed by Consultant if adequate spans are available for testing.
g. Consultant will conduct tracing of pipe alignment using a pipe locator with suitably
tuned audio frequency.
h. Consultant will perform Close -Interval -Survey or cell -to -cell survey per NACE
International RP0502-02 Sections A4.5 and A8 respectively, Current Standard of
Practice, Pipeline External Corrosion Direct Assessment Methodology after
completion of task "F" for up to five selected areas for approximately 400 linear
feet and based on soil corrosivity, electrical discontinuities, topography, and road
hazards.
Consultant will document the location of pipe features and test stations (overlay on
record drawings) using Global Positioning Systems (GPS). All GPS data points
shall be compatible with the City's mapping system/program (GIS). The
documentation will also be accompanied with digital photos, with written
description of facilities and the equipment and tests used for the fieldwork.
Upon request of the City Engineer or designee, Consultant will perform design,
installation and commissioning of cathodic protection systems, including labor,
materials, and equipment; minor repairs, including connections and wirings of
cables and coupons to terminals; and repairs of loose connections. Providing that
excavation work that requires Contractor's Class A license will be performed by
others under a separate agreement, per City's requirements.
k. Consultant will provide Ultrasonic thickness measurements of pipe wall; expose
pipe and repair coatings, as required; and provide the measurements and reporting
of the thickness with an ultrasonic thickness gauge and multiple echo transducer.
REV: 09-13-21 RL
ATTY/AGR.2021.238/Alisto, Engineering Group (Water System Corrosion Protection) (Page 12 of 15)
