Learn why this is important
Dear Mayor Gee and members of City Council,
I support the direction staff and the ad hoc committee havetaken to modernize the business license tax to make it moreequitable, reflect use of city services and generate meaningfulrevenue allowing the City to avoid service reductions.
I am, however, struggling with the definition of small, mediumand large businesses when looking at Table 5. I don’t perceiveeg. a professional services company with 11 employees as“large”.
In CA, under the ACA, large employers are those with 50 or morefull-time employees. My only suggestion would be to re-evaluatethose categories with perhaps small being 10 or feweremployees, medium 11-49 employees, and large 50+ employees.
However, given that the City can evaluate the results each yearand adjust accordingly, it would not make sense to delayputting this on the November ballot, as it would be a 2-yeardelay which our city cannot afford.
I encourage the Council to adopt the resolution to place thechange to the business license tax on the November 2024 ballot.
Sincerely,Rona Gundrum35-year Redwood City resident.
