14 <br /> <br />Boards, Commissions, and Committees Handbook| SeptemberMay 2024 2021 <br />BOARD OF BUILDING REVIEW (CONSISTS OF FIVE MEMBERS, FOUR-YEAR TERMS) <br /> <br />The Board of Building Review, established by Ordinance 1381, consists of five members, <br />appointed by the City Council for terms of four years. This is a quasi-judicial body due to some <br />appeal responsibilitfes. <br /> <br />The basic dutfes and responsibilitfes of the Board are as follows: <br />• Review and update the City’s building regulatory codes, <br />including suggested local amendments and provide <br />recommendatfons to the City Council pertfnent to the adoptfon <br />of such codes (Sectfon 2.124, City Code); <br />• Determine the suitability of alternate materials and types of <br />constructfon with respect to the requirements of Chapter 9 of <br />the City Code (Sectfon 2.125); and <br />• Hear appeals of persons denied a building permit, <br />inspectfon approval, or certfficate of occupancy for the reason <br />that the material or type of constructfon intended for use is not <br />deemed to be in compliance with Chapter 9 of the City Code. <br />The Board meets on the call of the Chair usually at the request of Building and Inspectfon and <br />Code Enforcement Division. <br /> <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES ADVISORY COMMITTEE (CONSISTS OF FIVE MEMBERS, APPOINTED BY <br />THE PLANNING COMMISSION, THREE-YEAR TERMS) <br /> <br />The Historic Resources Advisory Committee <br />was established by Ordinance No. 1815 in <br />1980. Members of the Committee are <br />appointed by the Planning Commission for <br />three-year terms. Its purpose is to advocate <br />the preservatfon and appropriate <br />rehabilitatfon of historically significant <br />propertfes and structures as set forth in the <br />Historic Resources Element of the General <br />Plan. The key duty of the Committee is to <br />make recommendatfons to the Planning <br />Commission which relate to the City’s Historic Preservatfon Ordinance.
