15 <br /> <br />Boards, Commissions, and Committees Handbook| SeptemberMay 2024 2021 <br /> <br />The goals of the Committee include the following: <br />• Advise on matters of historical significance and administer and support historic resource <br />educatfon and programs; <br />• All members have experience and training in State and Federal historic standing <br />requirements; <br />• Safeguard the City’s heritage by providing for the protectfon of landmarks representfng <br />significant elements of its history; <br />• Encourage public knowledge and appreciatfon of the City’s role in local and regional <br />history; <br />• Foster civic and neighborhood pride and a sense of identfty based on the recognitfon and <br />use of historic and cultural resources; <br />• Promote enjoyment and use of historic and cultural resources appropriate for the <br />educatfon and recreatfon of the residents; and <br />• Strengthen the economy of the City by protectfng and enhancing the City’s historical <br />features for resident, visitors, and tourists. <br /> <br />HOUSING AND HUMAN CONCERNS COMMITTEE (CONSISTS OF SEVEN MEMBERS, FOUR-YEAR <br />TERMS) <br /> <br />The Housing and Human Concerns Committee was <br />established by the City Council in 1977. The <br />Committee’s goal is to advocate for the improvement <br />of the quality of life of the residents of the City, and <br />to assure that human consideratfons, as set forth in <br />the General Plan, are given adequate consideratfon <br />in the decision-making process. More details about <br />the Committees compositfon and scope of work can <br />be found in Sectfon 2.113 of the City Code. <br /> <br />Areas of responsibility include: <br />• Monitoring changing social needs within the community and making recommendations <br />for improved, changed and/or new services; <br />• Promoting community awareness of social problems existing within the City; <br />• Coordinating human service activities within the City; <br />• Promoting adequate housing selection by location, type, price, and tenure, and a free <br />choice of housings for all persons; <br />9.B. - Page 23 of 53 <br />179
