During the park renovation community outreach process,
community members expressed a desire for facilities that cater to a broader age range of park users.
The design maximizes the use of the narrow space and includes a plaza with benches (featuring mid-bench
armrests), tables equipped with power outlets for working or studying outdoors, tree-lined accessible
pathways, and a colorful and unique outdoor classroom. The classroom space is enclosed by a metal
structure that has been reviewed and approved by the City’s Building Official. The structure is the largest
possible, given space constraints. Additionally, along the Cedar Street side of the park, the area will feature
a doggie bag station and pathway for dogs. The City has also coordinated with San Mateo County to ensure
strong Wi-Fi coverage in the new park; Wi-Fi and electricity in the park will be turned off daily at sunset.
Figure 1: Project Location Map
ANALYSIS
Bid Results – Jardin De Ninos Park Expansion Project
The project was advertised in the San Mateo Daily Journal newspaper and on the City’s website on August
1, 2024.
