<br />16 <br /> <br />one-half percent (2.5%) of base salary premium. The Fire Captain <br />shall not be the primary medic on any piece of fire apparatus; <br />however, an EMS Captain can simultaneously serve as both the <br />secondary medic and Captain on a fire apparatus. <br /> <br />An EMS Captain will be responsible for continued quality ass urance <br />and improvement of the EMS program and is required to support <br />departmental EMS operations as needed. <br /> <br />An EMS Captain shall not be regularly scheduled as a primary <br />paramedic. However, they shall be allowed to work as a primary <br />paramedic if not enough Firefighter/Engineer medics are on duty. <br /> <br /> An EMS Captain will assist Firefighter/Engineer paramedics with <br />treatment of patients on all incidents as needed, will assume the role <br />of a treating paramedic as necessary on incidents where multiple <br />patients are present, and will assist with patient care report writing. <br /> <br />Fire Captains that retain the Paramedic accreditation will be subject <br />to all County and Redwood City Paramedic requirements including <br />continuing education (CE). Fire Captains with Paramedic <br />accreditation in San Mateo County will be the first Fire Captains <br />eligible to receive Captain’s Paramedic pay. <br /> <br />The Fire Chief shall have final authority on the number of Fire <br />Captains authorized to receive Captain’s Paramedic pay. <br /> <br />As medics are promoted to the classification of Fire Captain, the Fire <br />Chief will determine the business need for additional Fire <br />Captain/Paramedics. If the business need is fulfilled no others will be <br />added to the system unless a vacancy occurs or the business need <br />increases, as determined by the Fire Chief. If more than one Fire <br />Captain is promoted at the same time, available slots will be filled <br />according to their ranking on the Fire Captain’s promotional list. If <br />the business need has already been met and a vacancy occurs, the <br />vacancy will be filled from a list of qualified Fire Captains by seniority <br />as Fire Captains. <br /> <br />7.7 Court Pay <br /> <br />An off-duty employee who is subpoenaed to appear in court due to a summons <br />to testify as a witness in a matter regarding an event or transaction which the <br />employee perceived or investigated in the course of their City job duties or at <br />a coroner’s inquest shall be compensated at one and one-half (1-1/2) times the <br />6.A. - Page 27 of 99 <br />34
