<br />50 <br /> <br /> <br />18.1.4 Sick Leave in Excess of Accrual Cap <br /> <br />In the event an employee has accumulated the maximum sick leave <br />credits of the one thousand nine hundred twenty (1,920) hours for <br />shift employees, and nine hundred sixty (960) hours for 40-hour <br />work week employees, and the employee exhausts their sick leave, <br />the Personnel Officer may, upon written recommendation of the <br />employee's department head, authorize additional sick leave to <br />include any sick leave in excess of the one thousand nine hundred <br />twenty (1,920) hour maximum which may not have accrued due to <br />the maximum limitation. Any such additional sick leave authorized <br />by the Personnel Officer shall not exceed the number of sick leave <br />hours the employee could have accrued in a six (6) month period. <br /> <br />18.1.5 Credit for Unused Sick Leave <br /> <br />18.1.5.1 An employee may elect to receive compensation in <br />lieu of sick leave credits for any calendar year (based <br />on the preceding 26 pay periods) by requesting <br />payment of unused sick leave in writing to the <br />Director of Finance on or before December 1, of that <br />year. Payment shall be made at twenty-five percent <br />(25%) of the value of the unused sick leave, or fifty <br />percent (50%) if no more than 24 hours have been <br />used for the preceding 26 pay periods, at the salary <br />for the year the payment is being made. The City will <br />endeavor to make payment on the non-payroll Friday <br />immediately following the first payroll Friday in <br />January, however the payment will be made no later <br />than the first pay period in February. There shall be <br />no payment in lieu of accumulated sick leave benefits <br />for years prior to such calendar year. <br /> <br /> Accumulated sick leave credits shall be reduced by <br />the value of the sick leave compensated as provided <br />in the above paragraph and the remaining balance <br />shall be accumulated to a maximum as outlined in <br />Section 18.1.1. <br /> <br />18.1.5.2 If an employee terminates their employment for <br />reasons other than death, retirement, or discharge, <br />compensation in lieu of unused sick leave shall be paid <br />in accordance with the terms provided for an <br />6.A. - Page 61 of 99 <br />68
