<br />11 <br /> <br /> <br />Effective the first full pay period following January 23, 2023, eligibility for <br />Emergency Responder Bilingual Premium Pay will be paid to eligible employees <br />is as follows: <br /> <br />7.5.1 Proficiency Level <br />Employees with proficient bilingual skills who are routinely and <br />consistently assigned to positions requiring communication in languages <br />other than English that are listed in subsection “7.5.4” are eligible to receive <br />a pay differential of two and one-half percent (2.5%) of top step base pay <br />for Police Officer (P700) for the use of these skills in job duties arising <br />during the normal course of work as emergency responders. To receive the <br />Proficiency Level of Emergency Responder Bilingual Premium Pay, the <br />employee is required to receive advance Department Head approval, be <br />proficient in a listed language, and successfully pass a proficiency <br />examination as determined by the Personnel Officer. Employees may be <br />subject to recertification no more than once every three (3) years. The <br />parties mutually acknowledge that all employees in represented <br />classifications are routinely and consistently assigned to positions requiring <br />service to a diverse community and therefore may require communication <br />in languages other than English. <br /> <br />7.5.2 Advanced Level <br />Employees with advanced bilingual skills who are routinely and <br />consistently assigned to positions requiring communication in languages <br />other than English and that are listed in section “7.5.4” are eligible to receive <br />a pay differential of five percent (5%) of top step base pay for Police Officer <br />(P700) for the use of these advanced skills in job duties arising during the <br />normal course of work as emergency responders. Advanced bilingual skills, <br />for purposes of the five percent (5%) pay differential, are defined as fluency <br />in a listed language other than English. For law enforcement personnel, this <br />will include the ability to translate well enough to conduct intense suspect <br />and victim interviews at a level that will hold up in court. To receive the <br />Advanced Level of Emergency Responder Bilingual Premium Pay, the <br />employee is required to receive advance Department Head approval, be <br />fluent in a listed language, and successfully pass a fluency examination as <br />determined by the Personnel Officer. Employees may be subject to <br />recertification no more than once every three (3) years.
