<br />42 <br /> <br /> <br />10.8.4 General Wellness/Fitness Additional Activities: Employees participating <br />in the Wellness Program are encouraged to complete six (6) hours per <br />month off-duty of additional activities or general education focused on <br />physical fitness, mental health, stress-induced trauma, suicide prevention <br />programs, nutrition, and stress reduction. This may include walking, <br />aerobic exercise, weight-lifting, healthy eating seminars, weight control <br />groups, pliability or stretch classes (e.g. yoga, Pilates), smoking cessation <br />classes, stress management seminars, and stress and relaxation programs. <br />Employees are asked to track and self-report their activities each month of <br />the program. <br /> <br />10.8.5 Benchmarks: Employees participating in the Wellness Program will work <br />toward certain self-identified goals for physical conditioning and wellness <br />throughout the term of the Program. Participants will meet to discuss <br />measurement methods and outcomes to be used during the program. <br />Employees are encouraged to achieve exemplary physical fitness or to <br />improve their performance on the physical fitness testing from previous <br />tests <br />10.8.6 Employee Availability: An employee’s ability to participate in the <br />Wellness Program on any given day is subject to supervisor approval based <br />on staffing needs. All employees participating in the Wellness Program are <br />required to be available by mobile telephone or radio while exercising, and <br />may be required to return to duty without undue delay (including no <br />opportunity to shower). <br />10.8.76 Minimum Health Requirement: If an employee is restricted by a <br />doctor from working full-duty, the employee must present a doctor’s note <br />for continued participation in the wellness program, with or without <br />modifications or restrictions. <br /> <br />SECTION 11. PROBATION <br /> <br />11.1 New Employees <br /> <br />A new hire employee shall serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. <br />Effective September 10, 2024, for new Police Academy graduates, such <br />probationary period begins after graduation from the P.O.S.T training academy and <br />the change in classification from Police Officer Trainee to appointment as Police <br />Officer (P700). <br /> <br />New hire lateral Police Officers (P700) shall serve a probationary period of twelve <br />(12) months. Upon satisfactory completion of such probationary period, the <br />employee shall be appointed as a regular full-time employee of the City of <br />Redwood City. <br /> <br />6.I. - Page 54 of 84 <br />284
