<br />43 <br /> <br />New employees on probation who are off work for any reason or on light duty for <br />more than thirty (30) work days shall have their probationary period extended by <br />the same amount of time as the work absence or their light duty assignment. <br />Additionally, upon written recommendation of the Police Chief, or their designee, <br />the Personnel Officer, or their designee, may grant one or more extensions of the <br />probationary period not to exceed six months’ duration if in the judgment of the <br />Personnel Officer or their designee this additional time may permit a probationary <br />employee to demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily complete probation. <br /> <br />During the first six (6) months of a new employee’s probationary period, an <br />employee may be required to pass physical agility and endurance tests, written or <br />oral examinations, and other job related tests to continue employment as a <br />probationary employee. During the last twelve (12) months of an eighteen (18) <br />month probationary period, an employee may be required to pass periodical written <br />examinations pertaining to all phases of the employee's work. Two (2) months <br />prior to the conclusion of the probationary period (twelve (12) or eighteen (18) <br />month probation periods), an employee may be required to pass an oral examination <br />and performance test to satisfy the recommendation from the Department to Human <br />Resources for retention on permanent employment status. <br /> <br />A probationary employee shall have the opportunity to read and discuss their <br />monthly performance report with their supervisor before such report becomes part <br />of the employee's employment record. <br /> <br />An employee may be separated from the City service at any time during the <br />probationary period without right of appeal or hearing. <br /> <br />Any employee appointed to the classifications of Police Academy Trainee (P750) <br />(Unrepresented) and Police Officer (P700) shall be considered in a training status <br />during the probationary period. <br /> <br />A Police Academy Trainee (P750) (Unrepresented) who has not completed the <br />required basic P.O.S.T training academy shall be considered a local miscellaneous <br />retirement employee for all purposes and will only be considered a safety retirement <br />member on the first (1st) day they are assigned to regular police duties as a Police <br />Officer (P700). <br /> <br />11.2 Promoted Employees <br /> <br />All promotional appointments (not including appointment from Police Officer <br />Trainee to Police Officer) shall be tentative and subject to a probationary period of <br />twelve (12) months of service from the date of appointment. During the <br />probationary period an employee may be rejected at any time by the City Manager <br />upon recommendation of the Police Chief. Any regular employee rejected during <br />the probationary period following a promotional appointment shall be reinstated to <br />the position from which they were promoted unless conditions warrant their <br />dismissal. <br /> <br />6.I. - Page 55 of 84 <br />285
