7 <br />Speaker Series <br />The WRT team will organize and facilitate a speaker series focused on topics relevant to DCRC. <br />The purpose of the speaker series is educational, providing the community and decision makers <br />with information on key planning concepts and technical information in an easy-to-understand <br />manner. It will establish a framework of understanding complex topics in order to help <br />community members more easily participate in the planning process over the next 2.5 years. <br />The format of these events would be a presentation by subject matter experts followed by a <br />moderated discussion and Q&A session with community members. The WRT team will <br />collaborate with staff to finalize the topics, but some of the topics covered may focus on the <br />following: <br />Placemaking and public space <br />Balancing land uses for economic development <br />Real estate market forces <br />Small business vitality & retail <br />The design of thriving retail-entertainment districts <br />Mobility strategies for a pedestrian- and transit-friendly district <br />Infrastructure and climate resilience <br />Historic resource protection <br />The speaker series will comprise two to three events, with up to two topics covered at each <br />event. Promotional and invitational materials will be developed for the events, including content <br />for social media posts, newsletters, e-blasts, and website posting. The WRT tam will coordinate <br />with City staff on promoting these events through the City’s existing channels. <br />To ensure accessibility, all events will be recorded and posted online for later viewing, allowing <br />community members who are unable to attend to engage with the material at their convenience. <br />Community Open Houses <br />Up to four community open houses will be held to engage the public and gather feedback.1 <br />Each open house will begin with a brief presentation and Q&A session to introduce the material <br />and address immediate questions. Following this, participants will be free to explore display <br />boards with project background information and meet with members of the project team. <br />Event Proposed Date <br />Open House #1: Existing Conditions Analysis March 2025, date TBD <br />Open House #2: Plan Framework Alternatives September/October 2025, date TBD <br />Online Surveys <br />Concurrent with the open houses, online surveys will be conducted to gather community <br />feedback. Each survey will be clear, concise, and user-friendly, with an estimated completion <br />time of about 5 minutes.
