6
PROCESSES AND SUBMITTALS3
Applicants must submit plans for the Parklet
or Sidewalk Cafe to ensure the design
meets the Guidelines set by Redwood City
and the California Building Standards Code.
• If an Applicant wishes to have an Overhead
Structure, they will need to receive a Planning
entitlement first. This must be done prior to
the Building Permit application.
• If an Applicant wishes to have heating devices
with LP gas tanks (e.g. propane), they will need
a Fire Department Operational Permit. This can
be applied for at the same time as the Building
Permit or after. It must be issued prior to the
use of the heating devices.
• All other Guidelines and the California Building
Standards Code will be evaluated during the
Building Permit review process.
At the conclusion of a successful application for
a Parklet or Sidewalk Cafe, Applicants will receive
both a Building Permit and an Encroachment
Permit. Applicants will also sign a License
Agreement with the City of Redwood City. See
Section 2, Definitions.
Each time an Applicant receives a formal
response from City staff to their submission,
the Applicant must resubmit within a maximum
of 90 days or the application expires. If that
timeframe is exceeded, the City may terminate
the Building Permit and require the applicant to
re-start the process from the beginning.
All fees associated with the Outdoor Business
Activity Program can be found on the Master
Fee Schedule.
Once issued, the Building Permit, Encroachment
Permit and License Agreement are valid for
one year. If the Parklet or Sidewalk Cafe is not
constructed according to the plans by one year
from the date of Building Permit issuance, the
Applicant will need to reapply for a Building
Permit before the Encroachment Permit can be
renewed. This will be subject to additional plan
review and fees.
The Encroachment Permit and License
Agreement are Revocable. Compliance with
Program Guidelines in this document is
required.
The following documents and diagrams are
available on the Outdoor Business Activity
webpage:
1 Review and approval process
2 Review and approval process map
3 Standard submittal requirements
4 Site plan checklist
5 Elevation plan checklists
6 Overhead structure submittal requirements
These documents and diagrams may be updated
from time to time as the Program evolves.
ATTY/RESO.0017/CC RESO OUTDOOR BUSINESS ACTIVITY PROGRAM GUIDELINES - EXHIBIT A
REV: 03-03-25 JB
